Kitchen Appliances for Modern Living

Posted on October 28, 2020 at 11:58 pm

Some kitchen appliances are fairly standard: ovens, toasters, grills, even microwaves are now in the majority of kitchens. Others are less commonplace but are becoming increasingly popular as modern ways of living change and people begin to shift their priorities, adjusting what the opinion of ‘normal’ standards of living might be. These are some modern appliances that are less commonplace but highly desirable:

  • Warming drawers. Perfect for bakers who need to prove their dough, these appliances are very useful.
  • Mixers. Again, these are another option that is perfect for bakers, offering better functionality and faster mixing than a hand mixer does.
  • Combi microwaves. Most kitchens now have a standard microwave, but a combi microwave acts as an oven or grill as well.
  • Pyrolytic ovens. These self cleaning ovens save people from having to do one of the jobs that they hate the most – and they do it very well indeed.

The Pleasure of Cooking in a New Kitchen

Posted on August 17, 2020 at 11:07 pm

Cooking should always be a pleasure, not a chore – a chance to prepare beautiful food that is fresh, healthy and delicious, and to cook meals for your family. If you are cooking in beautiful surroundings, this is half of what it is all about and is a major part of experiencing the pleasure of cooking and preparing food. A new kitchen is a joy and something that everyone should be able to enjoy. It doesn’t have to be overly expensive and anybody can install a new kitchen on a relatively low budget. It can still look beautiful, and will still provide a better cooking experience.

The kitchen needs to be functional as well as beautiful and a new kitchen makes it much easier to balance the two elements. Units and worktops can be chosen based on their colour and design as well as for their quality and the longevity they will bring to the kitchen.

One Kitchen, So Many Possibilities

Posted on January 30, 2020 at 9:36 pm

There are lots of possibilities with your kitchen – more than you might have thought of. The great thing about working with a kitchen designer is that they will be able to look at your kitchen space from an objective point of view, and create a design that will be perfect for that space. You will already have preconceptions about what you think might be possible, or what you would really like in your kitchen. A designer won’t have any of this so they can truly start from scratch – and it’s helpful that they’re great a kitchen design too. Ask a designer to come up with some initial plans based on what you’d like to get from your kitchen and see which ones you’d like to take further. They can then get more specific with the types of appliances you’d like, the type of sink you want, and the positioning of units and furniture.

Starting up a Catering Supply Business

Posted on January 29, 2019 at 7:23 pm

Many caterers are now based in the UK, and they rely on their equipment, being able to access it regularly and being able to get the high quality equipment they need to carry out their work properly. If you are able to supply this kind of equipment, you are going to be kept in very good business indeed from the catering industry. Once you make a name for yourself, you can do very well as the word begins to spread.

You will need to have some important USPs covered to work with the catering market – they are fussy, and rightly so, when food hygiene and quality is concerned. Make sure your products are what people actually need, and carry out plenty of market research. Speak to those in catering, and also look at what exists already for your target market. Then, make sure your products are highly accessible, with online shopping and a delivery service if possible.

How to Serve up your Food

Posted on August 28, 2018 at 7:29 pm

We eat with our eyes as much as our mouths – not literally of course, but the way food looks is incredibly important and will really affect the way in which we enjoy it. You must consider how you are going to present your food as a catering professional, ensuring it will look just as good as it tastes. This can also be challenging if you are catering for quite an informal event, that doesn’t have crockery or dishes to hand.

In this instance, you may need to improvise, or have your own crockery to hand. Source it from a specialist catering retailer, so that it is more likely to be of a high quality; you will need to make sure it doesn’t break in transit. You can then come up with creative ways of plating up your food, so that this becomes the main focus, as opposed to the dishes the food is served in.

Designing a Menu for an Event

Posted on July 20, 2018 at 7:25 pm

Any event will need a good menu to complement it. As a caterer, you should use your initiative, creativity and knowledge to help inform your menu and give your clients a wonderful culinary experience. You should also consider how appropriate a particular menu is going to be for the occasion – think about previous events you have catered for and what people are going to expect.

Begin by drafting up a menu and thinking about dishes that would work well together. If the event is going to be more formal, then make sure there is enough variety – there will be fewer courses. If it is more casual finger food and buffets, then you will need to have plenty of food for people to pick at. Once you have a menu plan, run it past a few people to see if it appeals to them. This is always a good starting point – good food will generally be appreciated universally.

Can you Automate Any Parts of the Catering Process?

Posted on February 22, 2018 at 9:34 am

Catering is a skill that is largely practical and technical. There are many things that need to be done by hand, and that just won’t work as well if you try to find shortcuts to save you time. If you want to automate some parts of the process, there may be some things you can do that won’t compromise on quality:

  • Mixing. If you make fresh cakes or pastries, you can invest in a mixer. These don’t come cheap, but they can save you so much time in the long run by mixing your dough or batter for you.
  • Buying ready-made sauces and bases. This one isn’t for everyone – some people will believe very strongly that everything should be made by hand. However, it can save you a lot of time if you are happy to buy some pre-made ingredients, even if it is just some chopped onions or pre-cooked eggs.
